FAQ

Our Products
What’s the difference between single panel and double panel frames?

Single panel frames use magnets to hold the art in place and include only one panel. This is the easiest way to change artwork and is recommended for anything you want to update and change often. They are ideal for family photos, kids’ artwork, menus, signage, corporate headshots and more.

Double panel frames offer more protection for the artwork as the artwork is sandwiched in between two panels. A second piece of acrylic, as opposed to magnets, is used to keep the artwork secure in the double panel frames. We recommend our nearly invisible clear photo corners to hold your pictures in place.

Which sizes are ideal for my art?

We recommend buying frames that have width and height dimensions that are at least two inches more than the size of your artwork. For example, a 14 x 14 Wexel Art frame is best suited for artwork that is 12 x 12 and smaller.

How do I clean and maintain my frames?

Clean acrylic panels with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, or dish soap and water when needed. Do not use glass cleaners or spirits, which can dull surface. Be careful not to scuff the plastic with rough surfaces! Acrylic polish will maintain a clear shine and can erase small scratches. Contact us if you need help finding polish.

Do I need to request UV-Protection for my art?

Our core line frames offer 98% UV protection. Custom frames allow you to choose UV protection as an upgrade. We also offer non-glare acrylic as a custom option, however we cannot do non-glare and UV protection with the same frame.

What does your warranty cover?

We stand by our products 100%! Wexel Art offers a Lifetime limited warranty on product components. Find more info here.

What if I lose magnets or need extras?

Extra magnets are available for sale. Click here to buy.

How strong are those Impressively Strong Magnets?

Depending on the thickness of the artwork and how dense it is will determine how much the magnet can hold. The magnets are strong enough to hold up to a quarter of an inch of material, including textiles and canvas paper.

Why is Wexel better than conventional frames? ;-)

There's never been a better way to highlight your art AND have the flexibility to change it up. With Wexel Art frames, artwork can be changed frequently and more easily than when using conventional frames. Also, our frames can accommodate odd shapes and 3-D items so that you have an easy way to display textiles or macaroni art.

How do I decide how many frames to hang on a wall?

Start by measuring your area and determining how much space you have to hang artwork. Then check out our design your wall tool! Help is available at custom@wexelart.com.

How thick can my artwork be to fit between the double panel frame?

Our wall mounts allow for art up to 1/4" thick in our double panel frames.

Installation
How does Wexel install into the wall?

All stocked frames come with a template & easy to follow instructions. Hang the template and mark the wall where indicated for the wall mounts. Then, simply put a screwdriver into the wall mount barrel and screw two of these into the wall. The acrylic panel can hang from just the top two points. The bottom wall mounts are decorative, unless needed for extra holding power. Check out this video for a quick tutorial:

Product Demonstration- Wexel Art-HD from Morgan Kimble Doherty on Vimeo.

Custom Frames do not include a template. But, you can add one for an additional cost by selecting that option when you work through the Design Your Own tool. The largest template we can make is 41" x 41".

Our Custom Shadowbox Lids do not come with canvases. However, you can have them made with pre-drilled holes so that you can attach your own canvas/canvas art to the shadowbox lid. We can also make shadowbox lids with an attached cleat. A cleat is used when you plan to put the lid on your art or object that is directly placed on the wall. See examples below:

Acrylic shadowbox on gray wall.Small acrylic shadowbox with cleat on gray wall.

What kind of screw do I use?

All frames and hardware packs will come with screws provided. They are 1" long and the #6 wood screw.

How do I change my artwork with single panel frames?

To change single panel frames, simply grab the front magnet and slide the pair of magnets off of your artwork, keeping them on the acrylic panel. Remove and replace the artwork. This can be done in seconds. Check out this video for more information:

How do I change my artwork with double panel frames?

To change out double panel frames, unscrew the frame from the wall and separate the two panels. Replace existing artwork with new artwork and screw the panels back in to the wall. This process should only take a couple of minutes. Either panel can be on top. However we recommend putting the thinner panel in the back. Watch a quick instructional video:

How do I frame a silk scarf?

We created our 40x40 Double Panel frame specifically to frame silk scarves. We've done a couple of scarf frame demos at different trade shows we've been to! Check out three videos here, here, and here.

What if I have cement, brick or marble walls?

If installing on anything other than drywall or wood, visit your local hardware store to choose appropriate anchors - they are inexpensive. You will still use our wall mounts, and the screw provided (#6 wood screw, 1" long). You should take your screw with you to your local hardware store so you know it fits.

How much space should I leave between frames?

This is a personal preference but we recommend at least 3 inches between frames.

How did the company get started?

Natasha McRee (an entrepreneurial mom of 2) and Morgan Kimble Doherty (a custom framer and artist), had collaborated on several design projects. Natasha was struggling with the challenge of how to frame kids art in a modern & meaningful way, that was also super easy to change. Their elegantly simple solution was to float acrylic off the wall with the high-design polish of nice hardware, and pair this with strong magnets that hold anything from finger paintings to greeting cards to sports jerseys (without the damaging drawbacks of tape or tacks).
