Allyson Monson
Photography is a world of light and color. And when layered with texture, it becomes a language Allyson Monson has been fluent in since childhood.
Growing up in the suburbs of New York placed the city within constant reach. The people, lights, sound and movement of urban life deeply influenced her visual sensibility, and the rhythm and energy of metropolitan environments continue to be central themes in her work. Balancing this urban influence are the quieter, formative memories of summers spent on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, where water, atmosphere and nature left an indelible mark on her creative perspective. In many ways, her work. Has been evolving for a lifetime.
Allyson studied Textiles, Merchandising and Design at the University of Rhode Island, a foundation that later led her to study Interior Design at the Studio Arts Center International in Florence, Italy through the Cleveland Institute of Art. While in Florence, she was challenged to reinterpret ordinary objects in unexpected ways, an exercise that forever shifted how she sees the world. Surrounded by centuries of design and craftsmanship, she began recognizing texture, form and function in in unconventional ways, learning to look beyond what an object is and instead focus on what it could become.
Today, Allyson’s photography explores the world beyond the naked eye. Her work ranges from clean, minimal compositions that create depth through subtle layering, to more complex images that invite curiosity and interpretation. Throughout her portfolio, there is a consistent visual thread: an emphasis on light texture, color and movement, that bridges past and present, familiarity and discovery.
Through photography, Allyson seamlessly combines her passion for art, design and travel. Her work is collected and placed in collaboration with interior designers, art consultants, retailers and galleries across the United States. She has exhibited at notable art and design shows including The Architectural Digest Design Show – NYC, The Affordable Art Show – NYC, Art Basel – Miami and Market Art + Design, The Hamptons among others.
