Every quarter the Wexel Art Showroom in Austin, Texas transforms from a production space to a refined art gallery featuring artists' from Austin and surrounding cities.
In the past, Wexel Art has had the pleasure of featuring two talented artists from Dallas, Texas; Dara Buriss and Carolyn Joe. Both artists' produce whimsical creations using a multitude of colors and leaving you in nothing short of awe.
Currently, Wexel is showcasing two local Austin artists', Gareth Maguire and Bob Schneider. Though Gareth and Bob produce different forms of art, you can't help but feel that their styles go together like cheese and a fine wine.
Gareth Maguire, an Austin local, originally from Ireland, works primarily in neo-expressionist, graffiti -style painting. Gareth's art focuses on suggestive dichotomies such as freedom versus occupation, sovereignty versus subservience, war versus peace, love versus hate, Catholicism versus protestantism and religion versus irreligion. Balancing abstraction with figuration, his social commentary is at time simple and humorous and other times insightful and provocative. His paintings are punctuated by doodles and phrases from his daughters, along with images and poetry from many of his favorite painters and writers. The Wexel team has had the joy of working with Gareth for some time now and we guarantee you, a conversation with Gareth is no ordinary conversation with his prolific imagination and benevolent sense of life.
Bob Schneider is a nationally acclaimed artist/singer/songwriter who also enjoys creating his own collages, paintings, and music videos. Based in Austin, his songs have been in the Top 20 of AAA Radio Charts. Schneider was originally inspired to be a visual artist while attending the University of Texas-El Paso as an art student. Schneider has become intrigued by the process of of labor-intensive printmaking. His collages often take the form of a classic portrait bust, with features defined in a kinetic hodgepodge of small pictures. Some of his art has been showcased in Print Art Austin, the exhibit, “ Outside the Lines,” and alongside Gareth Maguire’s work. Bob has transformed usual portraits to innovative collages such as his "Ali" (pictured below). Much like Gareth, Bob has a exceptional imagination and an immense range of artistic ability.
